Linking Hotpot to Linear

Hotpot's integration with Linear allows you to create tickets based on Hotpot moments, which also creates a link so you can navigate between both systems.

This integration is in Beta. We expect to make improvements in the future and this integration may require reconfiguration. Please send us Feedback!

Create a Linear webhook

First, navigate to your team, click Team Settings in the top menu, and click Webhooks.

Next, click New Webhook.

Give the webhook a name and select Linear as the type. The modal will close and your shiny new webhook will appear in the Configured Webhooks table.

You can now click the copy icon next to the webhook's key to copy the webhook URL into your clipboard.

With the webhook URL in your clipboard you can navigate to https://linear.app/settings/api. In the Webhooks section click the plus in the table.

Enter the name for your webhook, ensure Issues is selected, and paste the key from your clipboard into the URL field.

Finally, click Create webhook! On the next screen, copy the Signing secret from the form:

Enabling the Linear integration

Visit your Hotpot organization settings at https://app.hotpot.works/organization. Click the Integrations tab and click Linear in the list.

Here you'll find some options — the defaults should suffice — as well as a place to enter the signing key provided by Linear. Tick the signing checkbox and paste the key.

After pasting click save. Finally, click the Enable button at the top right of the screen:

Creating Linear issues

With the integration enabled, Hotpot will now provide a button to create a Linear issue when viewing a moment.

This button will appear on any moment you view.

Clicking this button will open Linear in a new tab with moment data pre-populated:

Here's the Linear issue already filled in using Hotpot's moment data.

After you create the issue Linear will issue a webhook to Hotpot making the connection. This connection will now show up on the moment when you view it.
