Teams in Hotpot

Teams are organizational units in Hotpot, meant to mirror your company's internal concept of teams. A team may have a single on-call schedule, but that will change in the future!

Creating a team

To create a team, click the Teams tab at the top of Hotpot and then click "Create new team."

Give your team a name and select the time zone in which it operates. Although a team may have members worldwide, it usually adheres to a "social" time zone for handoffs and other operations.

Hotpot will prompt you to set up a team schedule by default. You can skip this if you don't need an on-call schedule yet or if you want to defer it to later.

Editing a team

To edit a team, click the Teams tab atop Hotpot, then find the team's name in the list. Click the team's name, then click the "Team settings" tab. Here, you can change the team's settings!

Teams and slugs

When you create a team, a slug is automatically assigned, a unique string that identifies the team. For example the "API Operations" team may be assigned the slug api-operations. This slug is used in Hotpot for stint naming and more.

Changing a team's slug

It's often nice for a team's slug to match the casual name people use for the team. In our above example, you might prefer the slug to be the shorter api-ops. Team slugs may be changed by editing the team.
