Handle pages
When a page comes in, you have three choices: handle it, snooze it, or escalate it.
If you do nothing when a page comes in, Hotpot follows the configured options of the schedule and escalates the page as configured. For example, if your schedule is multistage and you do nothing about a page, Hotpot progresses to the next stage.
By default, Hotpot only shows the handle option, but you can ask Hotpot to feature flag on escalate and snooze workflows.
Handle a page
Handling a page is a way to indicate that you're on it and don't need any more reminders about the page. This is the typical response.
To handle a page, go to the page and click Handled.
Anyone can mark the page as handled at any time. This stops any snoozing, escalation, or other actions. It's considered done and dusted. Hotpot doesn't require a specific person (like someone who was notified) to do this.
Snooze a page
Snoozing a page is a way to temporarily pause notifications for a page. If you respond to a page and think, "I'm going to do some investigation on this" or "I'll look at this later," you might want to snooze the page.
To snooze a page, go to the page and click Snooze.
Since we've been on-call, and we know how it can go, Hotpot even let's you snooze a currently snoozed page!
Nobody can snooze forever, though! Snoozed pages re-notify you after the specified time.
Escalate a page
Escalating a page is a way to add more people to the response party. If you respond to a page and think, "I need some help" or "this is your problem, pal," you might want to escalate the page.
To escalate a page, go to the page and click Escalate.
Ensure you get notifications
Before you go on-call for the first time, you may want to configure your device to ensure you see notifications.
Add Hotpot's vCard
To ensure that phone calls don't get marked as spam and can break through Do Not Disturb settings, we recommend that you:
- Add and keep this vCard up to date: HotpotOutgoingNumber.vcf
- Configure your phone to allow that contact to bypass DND settings
Bypass iOS Do Not Disturb
To bypass iOS Do Not Disturb:
- Download the Hotpot vCard and add it to your contacts: HotpotOutgoingNumber.vcf.
- Open Settings and search for Do Not Disturb.
- In the Allow Notifications section, click People > Add People.
- Search for the Hotpot contact you just added and click Done.
